Toddler Has Superhuman Strength →
Interestingly, the original Superman comic merely had him with great strength - not the other ‘magic’ powers he aqquired over time (heat-ray vision, ability to fly, etc). Note that the Superman slogan says “able to leap tall buildings with a single bound!” - not fly over them. More realistically, lets hope he’s brought up to respect people not just for their (lack...

I doubt anyone can read this without some involuntary shivers. I’m going to need to take a little break, now, and I’m totally un-squeamish about surgery. It’s not the surgery - it’s the meaning of it.

Science and Religion: happy together.
I blogged before on how Intelligent Design bothers me. Now, here’s a post that makes some sense to me over on ScienceBlogs’ Galactic Interactions: On Science, Religion, and “Compartmentalization” Let me just add my spin on this: Does a scientist who experiences some other thoroughly non-scientific thing automatically become hypocritical? My answer is a resounding NO! ...

Unfortunate ironies
A woman is on trial in Sydney for murdering her parents. The irony is that she was diagnosed mentally ill last year, but her Scientologist parents denied her treatment. Religious Book Seller Struck By Lightning, from the clear blue sky. ‘Nuff said.

Intelligent Design bothers me.
As a Christian and a Scientist, some might think that I would be drawn to the arguments of the “Intelligent Design” camp, which tries to put a scientific face on their creation belief. In reality, I am deeply repulsed by it. The “Science” they use makes me ashamed to be a scientist almost as much as the uncritical extremism they impose makes me ashamed to be associated...

Does it count as a lie if it's that blatant?
Well, the answer is ‘yes’, but you do have to wonder at the gullibility of this guy. She said she’s a Powerball winner, a close friend of the lead of his favourite band, related to a Motley Crue guitarist, playboy model, LAPD crisis negotiatior, and more. No evidence of any of this, of course - it is all lies. He married her. Story: Worcester Telegram & Gazette

Another clock
This one (flash required) is not an innovative design in itself like the other one I linked to, but it is interesting for quite different reasons. It shows various statistics as they change over (calculated, averaged) real time. There’s was some discussion here, which is where I found it. (Note that if you want to discuss it with any of those people, you’d best go to the forum for...

Jailed for waving at my daughter | the Daily Mail →
This man’s wife suddenly moved out on him in 1993 with their 3 young daughters. Purely on his wife’s say-so (says teh report), he was denied all access to them - even though they wanted to live with him. He went to 133 court appearances with 33 judges to get them back - but it was only when his eldest, 10 years later at age 16, ran out on the mother to him that things finally turned...
